2011 Taiwan Taipei 2 Taiwan

The first thing international travelers would notice when they arrive in Taipei is a swarm of mopeds. At every intersection, they were lining up ahead of cars readying for crossing the intersection. Mopeds provides greater mobility to people in Taiwan at affordable prices. Unfortunately, the air quality in Taipei was quite bad mainly because of mopeds (there were many old 2-cycle mopeds there). Many people in Taipei wore masks. I feel they deserve to have a dedicated section.

(1) Mopeds

I don't know if it is written in Taiwan's driving rule book or if it is by mutual agreement between moped drivers and car drivers but all mopeds were waiting in an intersection ahead of cars (I now think their law facilitated this arrangement as I remembered there was a designated section for mopeds in intersections).
In Taipei, the old way of living is still strong even in the modern business district.

Mopeds in night time. Unlike here (in California) and in Japan, two persons can ride on a small moped.

They were speeding very fast even though the surface was wet.

At this gas station, there were dedicated fuel pumps for mopeds. There were fuel pumps for cars at the back of the station.

(2) Door Gods, and other temple photos

It was not uncommon to see multiple religions, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Matsu, were worshiped in a single temple compound (but a separate section was dedicated to each). Those religions coexisted in the community harmoniously for centuries (those religious cultures were inherited from their ancestors back in mainland).
Temples were maintained by devotees and belonged to the community.

Door Gods are the decoration (usually a depiction of a war general) placed on each side of the door in temples.

The roof decorations of temples are so elaborated.

Devotees worshiped in night time. I noticed many couples were coming to temples to pray or to worship.
